In the past month I have received more information about my upcoming semester as well as information about my host family.
I just wrote our Argentine Coordinator, Claudia, a nice long letter with lots of questions about all the activities I'd like to do outside of the planned program:
-My mom bought me a viola in Montana so now I'm thinking; " how cool would that be to take viola lessons in Argentina?"
-I do crew here at SMCM so I'm trying to get over being so intmidated of Argentina Rowing so that I'll just write a letter and find out if I can do it there or not....
- And I wanted to know where people could send me mail b/c well... I'm a pretty fab. pen pal (as long as you send me letters too)!
-----------------------------
So, today I checked my e-mail and had three e-mails from Argentina!!!
Claudia sent a pre-departure doc. explaining a lot about the weather, what to expect politically ( urging us to start reading online newspapers from Buenos Aires), and general info.... that will help us transition more gently.
She also, responded to all of my questions!
- yes, I should bring my viola....... Its a little scary to think that I'll be picking up a new instrument in my second language....but not as intimidating as doing crew ;)
- which YES, is another possibility. Apparently she knows some people who help who help organize regattas near BsAs (Buenos Aires);
"Nosotros trabajamos con gente que organiza remadas cerca de la ciudad. Le voy a preguntar a ellos. Hay equipos y clubes de remo, muchos, vamos a buscar algún lugar. No te traigas el bote, ¡por favor!"
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh and last but not least...
- She sent an address that I can give you folks to send me post cards and updates from the USA or wherever y'all might be....
Three weeks from today......Diré "Buenos días, Buenos Aires."
¡Que emocionante toda la oportunidad!
