Miercoles

Wednesday

Today was kind of a hard day. I was pretty tired since I stayed up really late talking to my folks on skype- then I had a hard time falling asleep when I finally laid down.  I woke up at 9 am and fell back asleep. I woke up when I did the second time because someone was knocking on my door! Susana has been having a handy man come, paint the balcony, and fix some other things around the apartment the past two days.  So I ate quickly took a fast shower and met up with Julia at 11. We decided to meet early so we could go to Recolta and see the Cemetery, and the Basilica de Pilar. We rode the subte all the way to Retiro which turned out to be a little further than we needed, but it was cool b/c we passed the monument honoring those who fought against the British in the war for the Islas Malvinas ( a somewhat touchy subject in Argentine history).

The cemetery was pretty cool and so was the Basilica. We were running out of time before our meeting so we didn’t get to see any of the other cool things in Recolta... so we’re going to go back… when? I’m not sure… before December.

Our meeting with Claudia went well we reviewed papers and got a new calendar, got to ask some more questions and chat a bit. Then I think the most exciting part of the day was riding the bus back… its been raining most of the day ( and we walked all the way from the cemetery in Recoleta to the Ticket Edu office in San Nicholas (its about 23 blocks)… I was a little wet when we got to the office…ha. So anyways, to avoid more walking in the rain we learned to ride the bus!!! Horray!  It was like getting a tour of the city for one peso (about 33.333 cents), what I mean is that it is a good way of getting to know the streets with out having to walk them.

I met Julias host mom today; she is a very cool lady. Her apartment is very chic…Our Madre’s de Casa are very cool professional women.  It is fun to see how their lives function; would I host college students were I in their position? I don’t know. I guess I don’t have to worry about that for a while.

Alright, that’s enough words for a while; how about some pictures:

It's strange seeing those huge tombs in the cemetery - bigger than houses some of them!
